Portrait group, Open Art and Workshop October update

The Thursday morning Portrait Group and the Thursday afternoon Open Art are off to a good start at Bolton le Sands Old Grammar School but we have space for a few more people and will welcome anyone who would like to join us. If you are a beginner at portraits there are some experienced people who are always willing to give advice and share their knowledge. In order to keep our costs down we are currently taking it in turns to model for ourselves but we may get fed up of our own faces! If any of you are willing to model for two or three consecutive Thursday mornings please get in touch with me. Feel free to volunteer your spouses, friends and anyone else! In the afternoon you can paint or draw whatever you choose and you can enjoy looking at other people’s work and talking to them about it. Also, I am taking bookings for Peter Threlfall’s workshop on Saturday November 24th which will be at Bolton le Sands Old Grammar School and will cost £20 per head. Very good value for a day with Peter.

Thank you. Kathy McAdam.

Members will note from the programme that we  no longer  hold our fortnightly club nights at Torrisholme as well as our demonstrations.  This is because of the poor attendance last season and a decision was made to encourage members to attend our weekly sessions at Bolton-le-Sands Old Grammar School.  We have the splendid hall there all day with our Portrait Group in the morning and painting and drawing groups in the afternoon.

Take you pick of either and join in the fun and please try and get along to our demonstrations.  We have a great mixture of artists all ready to show off their skills and we want as many of you as possible to show your support.  We would also like you to encourage friends and others to come long ad hopefully join the society.

In the main our programme includes:

  • Demonstrations and tuition by professional artists.
  • Thursday afternoon sessions.
  • Tutored workshops by professional artists.
  • Lectures by professional artists and art historians.
  • Outdoor painting and sketching days in summer.
  • Visits to galleries and national collections.
  • Public exhibitions for society members to show and sell their work.

The society is both friendly and welcoming, but then don’t just take my word for it – come and join us at one of our regular weekly meetings.

I shall look forward to greeting you.

Peter Lovett-Horn.

Chairman.
